Kangra Hills Kangra Jwalamukhi Temple ,Kangra Himachal Pradesh

Kangra is a staggeringly enchanting tourist destination roosted in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas. Boasting of glorious history, Kangra is a city in the Kangra district of the state of Himachal Pradesh. Brajeshwari Devi Temple

Brijeshwari Devi Temple is a famous religious destination in Kangra. Dedicated to Goddess Brajeshwari, the temple was the storehouse of diamonds and pearls at one point of time. The greedy Mohammed Gazni looted all the wealth of this temple in the year 1009. Later the temple was damaged by Sultan Feroze in 1360. And in the year 1905, the temple was struck by earthquake. Later in the year 1925, the temple was built again.

Jwalamukhi Temple

The Jwalamukhi Temple is another beautiful and famous religious center of Kangra Valley. It is one of the Shakti Peethas in the country. According to the legend after the Daksha Yoga Bhanga, Lord Shiva put the burnt dead body of Sati (his consort) on his shoulders and started moving here and there in anger. Seeing Lord Shiva's anger, the other heavenly deities started worrying about the grave results of it. And for saving the earth from his wrath, Lord Vishnu began to cut the limbs of the dead goddess Parvati. The places where the limbs fell became the holy centers known as Shakti Peethas. It is said that the place where the tongue of the dead Goddess fell a temple was built that was named Jwalamukhi. The flames that come out of the openings in the earth's surface in this temple are believed to be the manifestations of the Goddess. These flames are worshiped.

Radha Krishna Temple

The Radha Krishna Temple is beautifully adorned with murals of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha.

Bhaniar Shiva Temple

Devotees from far and wide come here to take blessings of Lord Shiva. This temple is located in Bhaniar in the Kangra district.

Kanjesar Mahadev Temple

Kanjesar Mahadev Temple is a temple devoted to Lord Shiva. It is located in beautiful surroundings in the Palampur area.

Sidh Bairag Lok Temple

Sidh Bairag Lok Temple is another temple here dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Palampur in the Kangra district.


It is a famous excursion of Kangra. This small town is located only 15 km from Kangra. It is famous for its exquisitely carved temples. It boasts of a group of 15 monolithic rock-cut temples, which dates back to the 10th century.

The perfect time to visit Kangra is from March to June.

How to Reach Kangra

By Air: Gaggal is the nearest airport (30 km off Kangra).

By Rail : Kangra has two railway stations namely the Kangra Station and the Kangra Mandir Station. It also offers a luxury train which operates from Pathankot to Palampur. On the journey the train offers breathtaking views of the snow covered Dhauladhar range.

By Road :Kangra can be easily reached from different cities of India such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Manali by road.
